ABOUT US

We make the path by walking it

Ours is not just any kind of a walking, but mindfully walking, listening to different voices and issues, and responding in the best way we can with the resources we have.

As Tanzania’s first and only women’s rights fund, our overall goal is to contribute towards women’s rights and empowerment, and to women’s and feminist movement building through implementing a functional and empowering mechanism for women in Tanzania.

Our Vision

To see a Tanzanian society where women realize their full potential and engage fully in the transformation of their communities in order to achieve empowerment and social justice.

Our
Mission

To contribute to the building of a strong women’s movement in Tanzania through making grants, strengthening women’s capacity, building strategic alliances and mobilizing resources.

WFT-T’s Theory Of Change

IF we establish ourselves as strong organization with a transformative feminist agenda AND from this base resource, support and connect feminist and women’s rights organizations to take individual and collective actions to dismantle patriarchy and power relations AND combine this with collaborations around strategic opportunities that advance our political agenda (enabling us to sustain a dynamic community of highly effective feminists who champion social change for a just and secure Tanzania and Africa THEN we will have a strong and feminist conscious women , girls and children movement whose contributions lead to transformative outcomes. ALL OF THIS WILL THEN CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS harmful norms perceptions, power structures, and legislative and policies framework being dismantled.

We will do this through the following strategic actions

Grant making & Management

Strengthening & Sustaining a Healthy & Growing Women’s Trust Fund

Strengthening feminist movement building

Capabilities Strengthening & Learning

Resource Mobilisation & Financial Sustainability

SUCCESS STORIES

WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SHIFT THE POWER WITH OUR GUARANTEES

“In 2021 we got our first grant from Women Fund Tanzania Trust, which enabled us to start implementation of planned activities. The main goal was to provide awareness to the community about domestic workers and help change the society’s negative perception against them, which leads to cruelty and other forms of abuse. What pushed us the most is that we have been working as domestic workers, hence we know and have lived those challenges” .”

    Beatrice Johnson,
Executive Director from The Light For Domestic Workers.

To say the truth, I find it difficult to find the right words to say about me journey with WFT because it is a long journey. What surprised me from the onset was the fact that although our organization was young and without a track record with meagre resources having been established just in 2012 WFT took an interest in our work and accorded us the respect that we thought was reserved for big organizations..”

    Rose Njiro,
    Director from Mimutie Women Organization.

I come from a family that cruelty against women was open and rampant and the example I like to give is of the history of my own mother who my father abandoned early on while I was six years old. From that time, I witnessed my mother playing multiple roles of parenthood, guardian, my protector, leader and my mentor in my life’s journey. .”

    Director from SUKITA.
